Login to Linux-based EC2 instance via Putty

For accessing EC2 instance that we created in Lab 4.1 via putty first thing we would need it putty download in your machine, so go ahead and download it
The key or pem file we downloaded in previous lab would be first needed to be converted to ppk format
File conversion is needed if you are using putty to SSH into your machine
For conversion, let’s open puttygen in your windows machine (this is install with putty)
Once puttygen is open click on Load > Browser .pem file
Select the .pem file
Click on Save private key
Say yes to without passphrase window
Before accessing EC2, you would need to make sure that port 22 is allowed on default security group
Here first identify the security group under which your EC2 is, by browsering the description tab of your EC2 then click on your security group
Click on Action > Edit Inbound Rule > Add following rule
Now, let’s open putty
Now find out Public IP address of EC2, by going to Instances > Description tab
Paste Public IP address
Go to SSH > Auth > browser to your ppk file > Open
Click Yes for SHA1 thumbprint warning
Login user is ec2-user
Voila! you are logged in into your EC2 instance.
